The Prosecutor’s office of Georgia announced the arrest at Tbilisi airport, a senior cleric on suspicion of trying to poison the Patriarch Elijah II. During a search of his Luggage was discovered cyanide
The Georgian Prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest of the head of service on management of property of the Patriarchate of Georgia, father of George (.) on suspicion of the attempted murder of Patriarch Ilia II. A statement by the chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze appears on the Agency’s website.
As explained in the Prosecutor’s office, the priest was detained February 10 at Tbilisi international airport. This happened after receiving an application from a citizen who said that. “asked him, at great expense to purchase the toxic substance cyanide to eliminate a high-ranking priest.”
The Prosecutor’s office started investigation on the basis of this information.
Shotadze also said that the detainee was going to fly to Berlin, where treated Ilia II. During the detention of his Luggage was discovered cyanide. “During the search of his apartment was discovered firearms and ammunition,” the Prosecutor added.
Earlier it became known that the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II was successfully operated in one of Berlin hospitals in connection with inflammation of the bladder.
About the possible attempted poisoning of the head of the Georgian Church earlier, citing sources, reported the TV channel “Rustavi 2”. Later the information about the arrest of George Mamaladze confirmed officially. In the case were also questioned by the head of the security service of the Patriarch Ioseb, Okhanashvili.
