Minister of energy of Ukraine called the alternative supply of anthracite coal from Donbas. These are direct import of electricity from Russia or of Russian gas deliveries to gas-oil power plant units, he said

The only alternative to cover the deficit of anthracite coal in Ukraine due to the stop of the supply of Donbass is a direct import of electricity from Russia or of Russian gas deliveries to gas-oil power plant units. This was stated on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine” the Minister of energy and coal industry Igor Nasalik.

“Or the Russian import [electricity], or Russian gas oil-gas blocks. This alternative. In any case, we will look for options,” he said (quoted by TASS).

According to him, to activate the search for alternative ways of coal supply will be possible after the emergency situation on the energy market of the country. The option of coal imports from South Africa while unrealistic, added Nasalik, since there coal products already contracted other companies “until April of this year.”

Earlier at the meeting of the crisis staff acting Director of Ukrenergo Vsevolod Kovalchuk and Minister of energy Igor Nasalik Monday, February 13, reported that “Ukrenergo” and the Ministry of energy suggested that the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers to declare a state of emergency in the electricity market due to the stop of the supply of coal-anthracite coal from the Donbass.

Nasalik said that on the Ukrainian warehouses is currently 927 thousand tons of anthracite, and noted that the consumption of coal is 30 thousand tons per day. On average, evaluated the situation, these reserves will last for 40 days, however, he added, can last for 100 days if you enter a state of emergency.

In early February of the current year Ukrainian activists and veterans of the ATO blocked the railroad near the town of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. The aim of the campaign is to prevent trade “with the separatists”, stressed the participants of the blockade.

Blocking the road was made three days after the exacerbation of the armed conflict in Donbas near the town of Avdiyivka, which occurred January 29. Both sides accused each other of initiating attacks. The settlement itself is under the control of the Ukrainian military.
