The official website of the Bank of Russia has ceased to work approximately 20:00 GMT, the Agency on insurance of contributions at 21:30. The failure happened on the day of the forum on cyber security in Magnitogorsk with participation of bankers and representatives of the Central Bank
The Bank of Russia website and the website of the Agency on insurance of contributions (ASV) about 20:00 on Tuesday, 14 February, was unavailable. As of 22:05 GMT both sites were not working. The cause of the failure is still unknown. The press service of the Central Bank and ASV at the time of publication had not responded to requests to RBC.
The interlocutor of RBC, close to the leadership of the FSB, said that we can talk about large-scale DDoS attack, but other details were not disclosed, saying only that the matter engaged the staff of the Centre for information security intelligence.
However, the sites of the largest Russian banks operate in the same mode. “We’ve seen no failures”, — told RBC head of the security service of the Bank from the top 5.
A technical glitch occurred on the day of the forum on information security, which takes place with the participation of representatives of the major banks and the Bank of Russia at the sanatorium “Jubilee” in Magnitogorsk (Bashkortostan).
At the end of last year, the Central Bank reported about DDoS attacks on financial institutions, including the Central Bank. “The aim of the attacks was the disruption of services and, consequently, the undermining of confidence in these organizations. These attacks were notable for the fact that it was the first large-scale use in Russia of Internet of things. Mostly the attacks were used online video camera and home routers”, — said in an interview with RBC Deputy head of the main Directorate of security and information protection, Bank of Russia Artem Sychev.
