The Kremlin has ruled out the introduction of a visa regime with Belarus

Russia is not going to introduce visas for Belarusian citizens, said Dmitry Peskov. This question is not even considered, despite the creation of the border zone along the Russian-Belarusian border, noted in the Kremlin

The Russian authorities do not consider the possibility of introducing a visa regime with Belarus. This was stated on Thursday, February 16, the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“No, this topic is not considered”, — said Peskov on the corresponding question of journalists (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).

According to a recent poll, 78% of Russians support the return of the visa regime with Belarus, believing that “Russia should not allow its territory unknown people”. The majority of Russians (40%) continue to perceive Belarus as “friendly state”.

In January 2017, Minsk, imposed a visa regime with 80 countries, including the US and EU member States. A few weeks after that, Russia imposed a regime of the border zone on the border with Belarus. The foreign Ministry of Belarus said that the decision was taken to Russia “without notice” and “contrary to all existing agreements.”

The FSB later explained the creation of the border zone on the border with Belarus the necessity of combating illegal migration and drug smuggling. The FSB noted that the border area does not impose restrictions on the freedom of crossing the state border by citizens of Russia and Belarus.
