This week, Ukraine plans to file a new lawsuit to Russia, said the head of the foreign Ministry of the country Pavlo Klimkin. According to him, the lawsuit will be filed in the framework of the UN Convention on the law of the sea will be “very ambitious”
Ukraine plans to submit to the international court against Russia concerning the violation of its obligations under the UN Convention on the law of the sea. This was told on air of ICTV TV channel by Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, reports “Ukrainian truth”.
“The first big lawsuit will be filed this week. He applies the UN Convention on the law of the sea”, — quotes the edition of his words.
According to Klimkin, the claim involves issues such as the use of marine space, violation of environmental security and cultural heritage. “This is a very large claim,” he added.
Klimkin noted that Ukraine intends to seek compensation from Russia in the framework of this claim. However, the size of the claim, he said.
That Ukraine is preparing for the filing of a new lawsuit against Russia in the international court of justice in the Hague in late August it was announced by the Minister of justice of Ukraine Pavel Petrenko. The details of the claim then he did not name, having reminded that Ukraine has filed two lawsuits to the international criminal court on the events of “euromaidan”, as well as the Donbas and Crimea.
Previously Klimkin said that in the near future the Kiev authorities will be transferred for consideration of the arbitration case over sovereign rights in the waters around the Crimea. The Minister noted that Ukraine has completed a pre-trial consultations with Russia on this issue and is preparing to refer the matter to arbitration on the basis of the UN Convention on the law of the sea. The authorities of the Peninsula, in turn, in response to claims of Kiev made a filing a counter claim — for damages caused to the Crimea for 20 years of being a part of Ukraine.
