The FBI arrested in new York two journalists of the Greek opposition TV channels Star and Alpha for covert surveillance of Union Minister of state for Greece, Nikos Pappas, who is on an official visit to the United States, according to the Athens news Agency.
It is reported that the reporters faked the signature of the assistant Pappas and ordered in his hotel room in West New York Grand Central food, the Agency said.
Greek journalists attracted the attention of intelligence agencies when they began to follow the security personnel of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who arrived in advance, and remove them. The detention of the reporters told the police that they are members of the delegation Tsipras, who will soon arrive in new York to participate in the UN General Assembly.
The FBI released the journalists, but it is reported that they will be prosecuted for forgery.
In addition, the publication tribune.gr writes that the journalists during the arrest were in wigs, hats and dark glasses, which caused suspicion of the police. According to the newspaper, perhaps they were preparing a provocation — at first they ordered room service snacks state Minister for 20 dollars, but then, according to the portal, was going to order on behalf of Pappas caviar and other delicacies for 2 thousand dollars and to report on how much costs the visit of the Greek delegation.
