Roskomnadzor started blocking LinkedIn

Roskomnadzor has sent the operators the requirement about blocking of LinkedIn in Russia and expects that the social network will be completely blocked during the day. This is the first case of blocking Russia’s largest social network for violations of the law “On personal data”

Social network LinkedIn brought in the register of infringers of rights of personal data subjects, according to the website of Roskomnadzor. Operators requested about blocking social networks, the message. This is done on the basis of an enforceable court decision, the report says.

“The actual stop of work of the resource will depend on the providers of Internet services. It is expected that the social network will be completely blocked in the course of the day”, — told RBC representative of Roscomnadzor Vadim Ampelonskiy.

Tagansky district court of Moscow on August 4, admitted LinkedIn has violated the law “On personal data”, which obliges to store personal data of Russians in Russia. LinkedIn challenged this decision, but on 10 November the Moscow city court rejected the appeal of the company. As reported by RBC representative of Roskomnadzor Vadim Ampelonskiy, the right to block LinkedIn appeared at the office immediately after the decision of Moscow city court, but technically the process took some time.

According to TNS, in September, the LinkedIn audience in Russia in the cities with population more than 700 thousand inhabitants aged 12-64 years were 2.39 million users, only a network was 5 million accounts from Russia.

Amendments to the law “On personal data”, which prohibits the storage of personal data of Russians abroad, came into force in September 2015, but LinkedIn became the first major blocked the social network. The representative of Roskomnadzor also said that data retention Russian users is not transferred to the country of social networks Twitter and Facebook. But, as was said Vadim Ampelonskiy, a lawsuit was filed against the business social network, due to multiple reports of a major leak of online personal data. In particular, in may 2016, the Internet was for sale login information to the accounts 117 million users.

A spokesman for LinkedIn said earlier RBC that the company wants to meet with a representative of Roskomnadzor, and to discuss the requirements of the service.
