“I am very pleased that our solution can transmit a positive signal before the summit EU — Ukraine on 24 November,” — said the permanent representative of Slovakia to the EU Peter Javorcik.
Monday, November 14, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko urged the EU to expedite Ukraine visa-free regime. According to him, the country has fulfilled all necessary requirements. “We made 144 of the reform, which was confirmed by the special assessment mission of the EU”, Poroshenko said (quoted by “the League.News”). The necessary amendments to the legislation, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in February. They imply a strengthening in the fight against corruption, illegal migration and discrimination.
In September it became known that the EU Parliament Committee on civil liberties, justice and home Affairs supported the introduction of a visa-free regime with Ukraine. This initiative must be approved by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. At the session in late October, the European Parliament did not consider the issue of granting Ukraine and Georgia a visa-free regime with EU countries. On 23 October the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in an interview to the channel “112 Ukraine” said that the visa-free regime would be approved before the summit Ukraine — EU in Brussels, which is scheduled on November 24.
According to the Ukrainian President, the delay in granting visa-free regime was connected with a dispute between the European Parliament and the European Commission on the authority to suspend a visa-free regime for any country.
The introduction of visa-free entry to the EU means that Ukrainians with biometric passports can stay in the Schengen countries without a visa for 90 days. The period may be extended to 180 days for business trip, travel programs or deal with family issues.
