Russia’s investigative Committee is concerned about the possibility of decriminalizing domestic violence in the country. This opinion was expressed by the participants of the meeting of the Public Council under the TFR devoted to the issue of prevention of violence against minors, the press service of the Ministry.

The issue was raised at the initiative of the head of the RCDS Alexander Bastrykin. He said that the topic is relevant in connection with the entry into force of the Federal law, which divided responsibility for assault on criminal and administrative. In this regard, the head of the TFR said that the beatings inflicted on the child, it is always a greater evil than assault against an adult who can fend for themselves or contact the police.

“Members of the Council agreed that the proposed decriminalization of domestic violence is cause for serious concern, and concluded that the decision about what to be liability – criminal or administrative – must be objective and reasonable, and provide adequate legal assessment of the social danger of the act itself”, – stated in the message.

At the meeting it was decided on the need for serious discussion concerning the punishment for assault committed by persons close to, primarily against children.

A bill providing for the abolition of criminal punishment for family assault were submitted to the Duma on Monday, November 14, Senator Elena Mizulina. In her opinion, the behavior of members of the family is less socially dangerous than the behavior of a stranger, which causes beatings in the street.
