“In Moscow will open a monument to Maya Plisetskaya

– In the square named after Maya Plisetskaya on Bolshaya Dmitrovka street on Sunday will host the Grand opening of the monument to the ballerina.

The monument, created by the honoured artist of Russia Viktor by Mitroshina, depicts the dancer in the role of Carmen. By design, it creates the illusion of soaring sculpture in the air.

As told by the creators, “it was a difficult task – in bronze to realize the amazing grace of a ballerina”. They noted that the monument symbolizes the service Plisetskaya, theater, ballet. The installation was timed to the birthday of a ballerina.

The sculpture was created on extrabudgetary funds and cost more than 20 million rubles., previously reported in the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation.

The height of the monument is about nine meters.

The initiator of the monument was made by the husband of the ballerina, the composer Rodion Shchedrin. The initiative was supported by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation, after which the project was approved by the Commission on monumental art at Moscow city Duma, representatives of the Department of cultural heritage, the Moscow architecture Committee.

Plisetskaya passed away shortly before his 90th birthday on may 2, 2015 in Germany.
