The defense Ministry told Reuters about Russia supplying jet fuel to Syria in circumvention of the EU sanctions. The Department stated that “intrigue” and “sanctions” within the EU “does not affect” the Russian VKS
Restrictions on the supply of fuel to Syria, operating within the EU do not relate to the group of Russian air force in this country, said the official representative of the Ministry of defense Igor Konashenkov. He was commenting on reports that Russian tankers delivered jet fuel to Syria, bypassing the EU sanctions.
“Operating inside the European Union intrigue, restrictions and sanctions for the supply of fuel to the Syrian Arab Republic air group VC Russia, to put it mildly, do not touch” — Konashenkov said (quoted by TASS).
He added that Russia is one of the leading oil-producing countries and “there is no shortage of jet fuel for the Russian space forces, especially when it comes to combating international terrorism, we have not even expected”.
Earlier on Tuesday, November 22, Reuters with reference to sources reported that the tankers under the Russian flag delivered aviation fuel to Syria through the territorial waters of the EU. The interlocutors of the Agency noted that the tankers docked at the port of Cyprus and Greece. According to one source, deliveries increased sharply in October: within one to two weeks, the tankers were taken to Syria 20 tons of fuel worth approximately $9 million at current prices.
The military operation of the Russian HQs in Syria began in September of 2015. The Russian group is based on the base Hamim. In November a military operation was joined by aircraft-carrying cruiser “Admiral Kuznetsov”.
