On Saturday in Sochi, ended the second world grain forum, which was attended by major representatives of the agricultural industry, both Russian and foreign. The main purpose for which gathered delegates from 27 countries to assess the state of the grain market and to develop a strategy for the development of the industry until 2030.
The sanctions helped
The first grain forum took place 7 years ago in St. Petersburg, and over the years much, of course, has changed. According to the Chairman of the Government Dmitry Medvedev, there were UPS and downs, but it is important that Russia has returned itself a rank of the strongest player on the world grain market.
— Despite the crisis in many sectors of the economy, agriculture in the country today is the fastest growing sector. And we will maintain this pace — said Dmitry Medvedev.
Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich confirmed that now agriculture is the locomotive of the Russian economy.
— Agriculture is the only sector of the economy, which in the past few years is steadily growing. It’s not just a growth driver is a sector that sets the tone and mood, — said Dvorkovich. I must admit, Russia is losing the Western countries in the volume of support of agriculture, however, and we have the support there. It is stable and will remain such.
Despite the sanctions. Russia is a leader on the world grain market
According to Vice-Prime Minister, not the last role in the development of agriculture was played by the sanctions. They allowed farmers to keep the shoulders and feel more comfortable.
But to fear the lifting of sanctions is not worth it. We will do everything so that the farmers felt confident and stable, — said Arkady Dvorkovich.
This is not the limit!
That Russia has a great potential to increase grain production in the next decade, said Minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev.
— Now the production amounts to 117 million tons a year, and this is not the limit. We have a great potential: up to 150 million tons in the next decade, — said Alexander Tkachev in the working meeting with heads of foreign delegations, international organizations and expert community. — Russia is an active participant in the world grain market. Long-term development strategy of the grain industry of Russia till 2030 is planned to increase grain production to 130 million tons. But really we can collect even more and set a goal this time to increase gross grain production to 150 million tons, increasing exports to 50 million tons. Thus, we will be able to cover the needs of the domestic market, as well as to double the exports.
Discussed on the forum also, and strategic issues.
— Since the beginning of the 2000s, we started to export grain, — said Deputy Minister of agriculture Sergey Levin. — And now with confidence can say that Russia has returned to the world market as the largest manufacturer and supplier of grain. In the last marketing year, our country became the first in the export of wheat, and we intend to strengthen our position in the future. Today we supply to the world market about 10% of the grain is what defines us as a major player. Now the main task is to improve product quality, to develop logistics and attract new financial instruments. Russia has a high potential of increasing grain production by expanding acreage and improving the agro-climatic conditions. And demand for cereals to 2030 will grow.
