Ex-Director of the Library of Ukrainian literature Valentyna Slyusarchuk “dump” some books “anti-Russian”, she said at the meeting of the petty-bourgeois court of capital on Wednesday, November 23. Slyusarchuk is held as a witness in the case, Natalia Sharina, who supervised the library in 2007-2015. Sharin accused of extremism and waste of the money of public institutions.

Slyusarchuk, who headed the library in 2001-2007, said that people often brought books as a gift. These publications are kept on the premises available for visitors. They watched the staff pick and chose which books to leave the library. Books they have not read, and studied only the title and abstract.

Slyusarchuk is also sometimes studied the newly received publication, although it was not in her job description. She noted that clear criteria for the selection of literature was not and the library is never censored. Some of the books she had thrown away, said the former Director.

Sharina lawyer Evgeny Smirnov listed the titles of books with extremist content, which, according to investigators, was circulated by his client, but Slyusarchuk couldn’t remember, were these books in the library when she led. She added that she never bought books that “blackening our state, represent it in the wrong light, from the point of view of historical facts”.

The Director of the Library of Ukrainian literature Natalia Sharina was detained October 28, 2015 on suspicion of distributing extremist literature. The next day, the capital’s Tagansky court has placed under house arrest. According to investigators, the Director of the library from 2011 to 2015 was distributed through the library of extremist books, including texts in Ukrainian nationalist Dmytro Korchynsky.

During election of a measure of restraint in the courtroom, Sharina noted that during a search in the library, indeed, had seized prohibited books, however, insisted that all literature was planted. In addition, according to the librarian, in 2010 against her investigators have already opened a criminal case. Then, according to the detainee, were withdrawn 73 of the book. A year later the case was closed, Sharina got the right to rehabilitation.

She was charged under paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal code (incitement of hatred or hostility using his official position) and also in the embezzlement of money allocated for legal fees for the library. As believes a consequence, Sharina funds not spent on the needs of the institution, and its protection in the first prosecution. Sharina itself does not admit his guilt.
