Vladimir Putin called Raul Castro and expressed his condolences in connection with the death of his older brother. The Cuban leader, in turn, assured the Russian President to remain on the path to further development of relations with Russia

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with President of Cuba Raul Castro in which he expressed his own behalf and on all the people of Russia condolences in connection with death of his older brother, Fidel Castro. About it on Saturday evening, reported the press service of the Kremlin.

The report said that Putin during telephone conversation, noted that Fidel Castro was “a bright politician, a patriot, selflessly served his Homeland, has won the love of the Cuban people and the respect of the entire international community”. In addition, Putin noted the great contribution of Fidel Castro to the establishment of relations of friendship and strategic partnership between Russia and Cuba.

Raul Castro, in turn, thanked the Russian President for the words of support. He also assured the immutability of the course for the further development of comprehensive cooperation with Russia, said the press service of the Kremlin.

Earlier on Saturday, Putin sent Raul Castro a letter of condolences, which also expressed his condolences in connection with the death of Fidel Castro. The telegram stated that the name of Fidel Castro is a symbol of an era in recent world history.

On the death of the leader of the Cuban revolution on Saturday morning (Moscow time) reported to his brother Raul. Fidel Castro was 90 years old.
