Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences in connection with death of the leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro
In a telegram of condolence to the people of Cuba, the Russian head of state said that the name of Fidel Castro is a symbol of an era in recent world history, the press service of the Kremlin.
“Built by him and his companions a free and independent Cuba became an influential member of the international community and served as an inspiring example for many countries and peoples. Fidel Castro was sincere and reliable friend of Russia. He made an enormous personal contribution to formation and development of Russian-Cuban relations, the close strategic cooperation in all areas,” — said in the telegram of condolences.
My condolences to the people of Cuba was expressed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. In his Facebook he wrote the following: “Fidel Castro has lived a great life, full of events and challenges. It was not just a politician and leader. First and foremost he was a brilliant man, a leader. Friendly, allied relations between our country and Cuba built thanks to his personal involvement. Last time we talked on the phone in August of this year, when Fidel Castro celebrated the 90th anniversary. He was keenly interested in what is happening in the world, in Russia, until the last moment kept a sharp mind and kept in mind a lot of information. Together with Fidel Castro, without exaggeration, it took a whole historical epoch. I will always remember the meeting with this eminent man. My deepest condolences, to all the Cuban people”.
Condolences to the people of Cuba come from different countries of the world. So, French President Francois Hollande called Castro the “embodiment of the Cuban revolution” and “the pride of the people of this country.”
Prime Minister Narendra modi has called the news of Castro’s death “tragic”, describing the former leader of Cuba’s “great friend.”
Condolences were also expressed by the leaders of Mexico, Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador.
