The government held an emergency meeting in Moscow after the suspension of the license of the European University (EUSP) in St. Petersburg, found out “Kommersant”.
The Federal service for supervision in education and science (Rosobrnadzor) has suspended the license of the University on Friday, December 9. After that, the University administration appealed to President Vladimir Putin, who demanded to deal with the situation. The conference itself was held behind closed doors. According to the newspaper, all participants, including the representatives of Rosobrnadzor and the Ministry of education, spoke in support of the European University. According to them, the remaining claims against the University are not meaningful.
Rector Oleg Kharkhordin believes that the suspension of EU activities related to support of the University by a member of its Board of Trustees Alexei Kudrin and the activities of the Institute of problems of law enforcement (IPP) EY. According to the newspaper, the analyst of IPP on the work of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies has caused discontent in the Prosecutor’s office.
However Kudrin in conversation with “Kommersant” is not related problems EY with the work of the Center for strategic research, which he heads. “There is a General consensus that the work of the EU should not be stopped,” he said.
According to one version, which was expressed by Kharkhordin, the reason for the decision of Roskomnadzor could be planned restoration of the Palace Kushelev-Bezborodko, which the University leases. “We gained resources for future renovation and construction.
