The investigative Committee did not find the suspects in the attack on journalists and human rights activists and suspended the investigation of the criminal case. The incident occurred on the border of Chechnya and Ingushetia in March 2016
Management SKR across Ingushetia suspended the investigation of the criminal case about the attack on the bus of the consolidated mobile group “Committee for the prevention of torture”, which went to journalists of several publications. About it RBC was told by the lawyer Andrei Sabinin, representing the interests of victims.
The incident occurred on 9 March 2016 on the border of Chechnya and Ingushetia. People in masks surrounded the minibus in which there were about 20 journalists and human rights defenders, began to beat the glass, and when the participants left the transport, they started to beat and ignited the car. After the attack by gunmen fled toward the border with Chechnya.
Among the victims were members of the “Committee for the prevention of torture” Nizhny Novgorod Residents Ivan and Catherine Venclova, blogger Michael Solunin and former correspondent of “Kommersant” Anton Prusakov, correspondent of magazine The New Times, the online edition of “the Media”, as well as reporters from Sweden and Norway. It is planned to collect material for several texts: in particular, the case against Ukrainian citizens Mykola Karpiuk and Stanislaus Cliche, accused of killing Russians in Chechnya in the 1990-ies, as well as so-called honour killings in the country.
The TFR then started investigation under articles “impeding the professional activities of journalists”, “disorderly conduct”, “deliberate destruction or damage of property made from hooligan promptings by an arson” and “robbery” (part 3 of article 144, part 2 of article 213, article 167 and part 2 of article 162 of the criminal code).
“Business suspended due to a failure to identify individuals, the administration of SC has approved this decision”, — told RBC Sabinin, who learned it from the investigator for particularly important cases of the regional administration TFR ISA Bersanova. “Now the case is to check the Prosecutor’s office. We have declared the petition for acquaintance with materials of criminal case”, — the lawyer added.
The next day after the attack, President Vladimir Putin instructed the interior Ministry to ascertain all the facts of attacks on journalists and human rights defenders on their way to Chechnya. The Ingush interior Ministry took witnesses in the criminal case and the victims under goszaschitu, which operated only on the territory of the Republic.
