The Pentagon is discussing the possibility to place in the Syrian army, CNN has learned. According to the source channel, this should speed up the fight with ISIS, insists Donald trump
The Pentagon may propose to place in Syria US army to speed up the fight against “Islamic state” (declared a terrorist organization and prohibited in Russia). About this CNN reported sources in the Ministry of defence.
“It is possible that the regular ground forces will be in Syria for some time”, — said the interlocutor of the channel.
He stressed that the decision will be made by the President of the United States Donald trump, who earlier ordered the Pentagon to submit a plan to win over IG in a month. According to the source CNN, this idea is just one of those that can be offered to Trump.
Sources in the Pentagon in an interview with TV channel said that now the issue of deployment of us ground troops in Syria is under discussion, not claiming that this is an official proposal.
Accurate task ground units, if you send them to Syria, is still unknown, reports CNN. However, one of their goals is “to assure Turkey that the Kurdish forces do not threaten the interests of Ankara”. Perhaps part of the land forces will be deployed first to Kuwait and then transferred to Syria.
“If this idea is approved, it will signal a fundamental change in the willingness of the administration to trump to take such a risk,” reports CNN.
In April last year, former US President Barak Obama said that sending American troops to Syria to overthrow the regime of President Bashar al-Assad would be a mistake.
In late January, trump called on the us chiefs of staff until the end of February to prepare a plan to defeat ISIS. White house spokesman Sean Spicer said that the Bush administration is ready to cooperate with any country that is interested in the destruction of the terrorists.
