The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov spoke at the Munich security conference. He noted that, according to some statements of Western politicians, the cold war is not over
The statements made by some Western politicians at the Munich security conference suggests that in their minds never ended the cold war. This statement was made by foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking Saturday, February 18, at the Munich security conference.
“It is said that wars begin in the minds of people, there, they, logically, have to end. However, with the cold war this has not happened yet, to judge, in particular, on some of the speeches of politicians in Europe and the USA, including the statements that were made yesterday and today at the beginning of our conference,” Lavrov said (quoted by “Interfax”).
Lavrov also said that NATO is “an Institute cold war”, the expansion of which has led to “unprecedented tensions in Europe over the last thirty years.” However, he said that Russia supports the restoration of military cooperation with NATO, but the Alliance is not ready for this, said the Russian Minister.
The head of the Russian foreign Ministry also stressed that tensions between Russia and the West is unnatural. He noted that Russia is “sincerely advocated for equal work on forming a common security space from Vancouver to Vladivostok.” “Tensions in recent years between North America, Europe and Russia is unnatural. I would even say unnatural,” — quoted Lavrov, “RIA Novosti”.
He added that Russia stands for pragmatic relations with the United States. “What kind of relationship we want with the US? Relations of pragmatism, mutual respect, awareness of special responsibility for global stability”, — said the Minister, noting that the two countries have never been in direct conflict.
“In all of our interests in a constructive development of Russian-American relations, especially because America is no less close than the EU, our neighbour. In the Bering Strait separates us is only four kilometers,” — said Lavrov.
