“Ukraine has increased the purchase of coal in South Africa on the eve of the heating season

– Ukrainian “DTEK Energo” has received the fourth in this year’s batch of anthracite from South Africa in the amount of 75 thousand tons, thus increasing the total volume of coal imports from that country to 300 thousand tons. In the near future the company expects to receive another batch of South African coal capacity of 75 thousand tons.

As reported the press service of the company, a bulk carrier with the fourth in this year’s batch of anthracite coal arrived in the port “southern” (Odessa region). Anthracite is designed to Pridneprovskaya and Krivorozhskaya TPP “DTEK Energo”.

“After unloading in the port “southern” coal will go to the warehouses of the Pridneprovskaya and Krivorozhskaya TPP power to the station had a resource for work in autumn-winter period”, – is spoken in the message.

The first vessel with 75 thousand tons of anthracite for heat and power plants “DTEK” arrived in Ukraine on 25 may, the second on July 23, the third on August 14. Only in South Africa, the company has contracted 675 thousand tons of coal.

Ukraine has large reserves of coal, concentrated mainly in the East of the country. The need to import coal due to the lasting for several months, a transport blockade, the uncontrolled Kiev part of the Donbass. In the Ukrainian energy sector 5 months (until mid July) operated a regime of emergency because of the shortage of coal energy brands.

Russia in January-July 2017 was the largest supplier of imported steam coal to Ukraine, providing more than 80% of supply. In addition, steam coal was imported from South Africa and Poland.

In mid-September, Ukraine received the first shipment of coal from the United States.
