Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit said Tuesday that the hurricane “Maria” was wrecked on the island of “everything that can be bought for money.”
On his Facebook page he wrote: “the wind blew the roofs of houses, almost all with whom I was able to talk. The roof of my official residence was one of the first, which was demolished”.
According to him, the hurricane “devastated” to Dominic. The Prime Minister appealed to “friendly countries” with a request to assist the residents of Dominica in the aftermath of the disaster.
“The main thing, on what we focus now is to rescue those who were trapped as a result of hurricane, as well as in providing assistance to victims”, – said the Prime Minister of Dominica.
Earlier the hurricane “Maria” was awarded the highest – the fifth – power category on the Saffir-Simpson scale. For Tuesday, it weakened to category four, but soon increased again to the highest level. The maximum wind speed reaches 260 km/h.
The Islands of the Caribbean previously struck another powerful hurricane – “Irma”, which killed dozens of people.
Dominica – government on the same island group of the lesser Antilles in the Caribbean sea. To the North-West of Dominica is located Guadeloupe, to the Southeast Martinique.
