President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk during which the two sides discussed the situation in the Donbas and the prospects of the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in the region, the press service of the Ukrainian President.
“Interlocutors discussed situation in Donbas and coordinated positions on the Ukrainian initiative in the deployment of the UN peacekeeping operation,” – said in a statement on the website of the President of Ukraine.
“The President of Ukraine thanked for the decision to extend sanctions against Russia,” reads the message.
In addition, the parties discussed the issue concerning Crimea, and preparations for the November summit of “Eastern partnership” which will take place in Brussels, the report said.
September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the presence of UN peacekeepers in the Donbas would benefit the resolution of the conflict in the South-East of Ukraine, and instructed the foreign Ministry to submit an appropriate draft resolution to the UNSC.
