Nine minutes later, the head of the rocket separated from the third stage, and then the satellite went into orbit. As reported in the Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation, with the spacecraft installed and maintained stable telemetry, and all onboard systems of the satellite are operating normally. It is expected that the spacecraft will work in orbit for at least seven years.
“GLONASS-M” — a series of spacecraft of the Russian global navigation system GLONASS the second generation. The mass of these devices is 1 of 415 pounds, and a guaranteed life of seven years (in two times more than the previous generation). Unlike the satellites of the previous generation, they are able to immediately transmit two signals for civilian users, which allowed to improve the accuracy of location is approximately 2.5 times compared with the spacecraft “GLONASS”.
The apparatus of the second generation was first launched in 2011, and since then the satellite orbital grouping of Russia have added to them almost every year. In the middle of 2015, it was decided to end production of series of satellites “GLONASS-M”. As reported, on change by it come more accurate, powerful and durable “GLONASS-K”. Today in space launched two experimental models of these satellites. Also is developing the next generation of space satellites “GLONASS-K2”.
