– Spain’s constitutional court made a decision on daily penalties of up to 12 thousand Euro in respect of the members of the government of Catalonia involved in the plans for a referendum on independence, said Thursday the Spanish media.
According to the court, the Catalans will be subject to daily fines until they stop all actions related to the preparation of the referendum.
Meanwhile, in Barcelona and other cities of Catalonia, the ongoing mass protests against the actions of the Central government of Spain to prevent the referendum on self-determination of Catalonia. The protest was attended by tens of thousands of people.
Police detained a number of activists, including the head of the economic governance of Catalonia Josep Maria Hove. Officials of the Civil guard of Spain also withdrew about 10 million ballots for a vote on the referendum on the independence of Catalonia.
However, despite the reaction of the Central government of Spain, Catalan authorities intend to hold a referendum on self-determination on 1 October.
