Died the famous Soviet skater Lyudmila Belousova

Two-time Olympic champion, famous Soviet skater Lyudmila Belousova, who with partner Oleg Protopopov, has died at the age of 81 years.

Recall that Belousova started skating with partner Oleg Protopopov in 1954. They trained under the guidance of Igor Moskvin, and Peter Orlov.

In December 1957, the skaters got married. At first their results were not outstanding. But then, significantly enriching the technical Arsenal for the first time and performing a death spiral on the inner edge they won in the 1962 USSR championship. And in 1964 and in 1968 they won the gold at the Olympics in Innsbruck and Grenoble. On their account four victories at the world Championships and four gold medals at the European Championships.

After retiring from the sport, the athletes went to work in the Leningrad ballet on ice in September 1979, while on tour in Switzerland, they asked for political asylum and refused to return to the USSR. After that they were deprived of many titles in the USSR.

For the first time they came Home in 2003 at the invitation of Vyacheslav Fetisov. Also held many meetings, gave interviews during the winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
