– The Syrian army on Friday entered the town of al-Mayadin, located in the province of Deir ez-Zor and is an important stronghold of the Islamic state group (banned in Russia). It is reported by the inter-Arab newspaper “al-Masdar” citing a military source.
According to the source, the Syrian military entered the town from the West after a short battle with terrorists who have taken up positions near the city.
“Al-Masdar” notes that al-Mayadin is not only a new “capital” of ISIS, but also occupies a strategic position in relation to the oil fields of al-Umar, the largest in Syria.
The publication notes that the Syrian army and the international coalition forces led by the USA consider it necessary to take control of these oil fields.
