Voting took place at the Congress of the International chess Federation in Antalya

– The Executive Committee of the International chess Federation has voted in favour of the incumbent President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov did not put forward his candidacy in the next elections, the press service of FIDE.
The decision was made in the framework of the FIDE Congress, which takes place in Antalya.
37 members of the Executive Committee expressed for the proposed initiative, and 20 against.

Elections of the head of FIDE is scheduled for 2018.
On 27 March this year at the FIDE website there is information that Ilyumzhinov announced his departure from the post of President during the session of the Federation Council. As later told Ilyumzhinov he spent hours trying to post on the portal a denial, however, could not contact the headquarters of FIDE.
He later said he did not intend to leave the post of head FIDE and ready to serve before the presidential election in 2018.
In April, the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian chess Federation, said that Russia will support the candidacy of incumbent FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in the next election for this post .
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has headed FIDE in 1995 and since then has been repeatedly re-elected to a new term. Recently, the head of the International chess Federation were in the sanctions list of the USA on Syria.
