– Deputy Chairman of the Parliament, former Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas announced Monday that he was leaving the post in connection with inappropriate behavior with a woman.
“Today there come a time when you have to take responsibility. I declare that I am leaving the post of Deputy speaker,” said Rivas, speaking on Monday in Parliament.
Rõivas thanked everyone who supported him in politics.
The intention to step down from his post, he told reporters at the end of last week, when a scandal broke out in connection with misconduct with a woman during his business trip to Malaysia. At a party in a night bar in Kuala Lumpur, he molested the women, who did not like his behavior.
He apologized to the media in front of the injured woman, family and community, and expressed intention to resign as Deputy speaker, but remain an ordinary member of Parliament.
As expected, the Parliament will elect a new Deputy speaker on 23 October. In the media say that, most likely, to this post the largest opposition “Party of Reform”, which is Rõivas, will offer to the Chairman of the political organization Hanno Pevkur.
