– In early October, in Hollywood, a scandal erupted around producer Harvey Weinstein, who after exposing publications in the newspaper was accused of sexual harassment by several Actresses of the first magnitude. Decades of sexual harassment

Harvey Weinstein until recently was considered one of the most influential producers in Hollywood. At the end of the 70s, along with his younger brother Bob, he founded an independent film Studio Miramax, which, among others, has released a picture of Quentin Tarantino’s “reservoir dogs” and “pulp fiction” and the films of Pedro Almodovar, Gus van Sant and Steven Soderbergh, who received awards ranging from Oscar to “the Golden palm”. In 2005, Weinstein created another production company – The Weinstein Company, which released such films as “the King’s speech” and “the imitation Game” and, again, the projects Tarantino – “Inglourious Basterds” and “Django unchained.”

October 5, 2017, The New York Times published an investigation stating that Harvey Weinstein for decades charged with sexual harassment, but these cases was not made public. The newspaper wrote that 13 women said the harassment by the producer from 1990 to 2015. In addition, 16 current and former employees of companies Weinstein noted that they were aware of the accusations against him.

According to the publication, as a rule, Weinstein acted in the same manner. The New York Times noted that Weinstein has repeatedly charged with harassment, but for silence and conflict resolution outside of court, a producer has paid to the victims from 80 to 150 thousand dollars compensation.

After the article a few Actresses, and employees of Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company said that Weinstein solicited. Later Amazon suspended the head of television and film studios, Amazon Studios Roy price in connection with allegations of misuse of official position and abuse in the context of his close business contacts with Weinstein. Amazon Studios has also announced the termination of work on a joint project with Weinstein Co. and independent work on another series, which the Studio planned to shoot together. On 18 October it became known that Price resigned as head of Amazon Studios.

After the article in The New York Times, Weinstein said that most of the writing in it is a lie. In another statement said that “the history of (the charges against him – if) so good that I would have bought the rights and made the film”. At the same time, he acknowledged that he needed to change his behavior. Later Weinstein, who, according to media reports, is now in rehab in Arizona, has hired lawyer Patricia Glaser. Presumably, it will deal with the claim against the newspaper for libel, but while the details of the case were not disclosed.

Bob Weinstein, who served as head of the Weinstein Co, in turn, said he was not aware of the adventures of a brother. However, before he himself was charged with harassment producer Amanda Siegel – in response to this he said that was nothing like this.

The reaction of colleagues and #metoo

After the publication of The New York Times, Weinstein became the object of criticism from colleagues. So, American Director Quentin Tarantino stated that “he’s heartbroken” after the revelations about the producer that he was a friend of the last 25 years. In defense of Weinstein, however, expressed some stars. So, actress Lindsay lohan wrote that she felt sorry for him, sympathetic statements were made by the fashion designer Donna Karan, film Directors Oliver stone and woody Allen, who called the situation “sad.”

British actress Emma Thompson, in turn, has declared in interview “Bi-bi-si” that the problem is broader than a particular case of Weinstein, who is only the “tip of the iceberg.” Thompson pointed to the situation in kinoaktrisy – “a system of harassment, humiliation, bullying, and cover-up” – in which the actions of Weinstein became possible.

A wide resonance in the Internet caused the response to the incident, the actress Alyssa Milano: October 15, she launched the social networking flash mob #metoo (#I), which urged women to talk about harassment.

Icelandic singer and actress Bjork Oct 15, wrote on Facebook that, in connection with the scandal around Hollywood producer Weinstein, she felt he could tell about his own experience. Scandal Weinstein has influenced not only the world of show business. On October 16 the Deputy Chairman of the Parliament, former Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas announced that he left the post due to inappropriate behavior towards women.

On Wednesday, the Soviet gymnast, Olympic champion Tatiana gutsu said that in 1991 he became the victim of violence on the part of the gymnast Vitaly Scherbo. According to Gutu, the rape of the competition in Stuttgart knew her colleagues on the national team of the USSR, but did nothing.
