– The Council of Ministers will meet on Saturday to apply 155th article of the Spanish Constitution, which would deprive the government of Catalonia powers, said Thursday the newspaper El Pais, citing the statement of the Prime Minister’s residence.

“The government will proceed to implement the procedure set out in article 155 of the Constitution…” – it says. An emergency meeting will be held October 21, to decide what measures would be taken to “protect the interests of the Spaniards in Catalonia”.

Earlier, the head of Generalitat Catalonia Carles Pujdeme once again ignored the request of the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy to answer the question, whether he proclaimed the independence of Catalonia from Spain. In his letter Thursday, he confirmed the suspension of the Declaration of independence, and stated that he intends to declare the independence of Catalonia from Spain, if Madrid refuses to dialogue on this issue.

Last week the Prime Minister of Spain gave the head of the Catalan regional government five days to explain whether he announced on the independence of Catalonia. This period expired on 16 October. It was also reported that in Madrid have created a special group of experts to determine what actions are legitimate in case of refusal of Catalonia to carry out the Spanish Constitution obligations.

However, about 90% of the referendum participants voted for independence from Spain. The constitutional court of Spain, declared the vote unconstitutional.
