– Israeli artillery on Saturday bombarded Syrian army position after a few stray shells from Syria fell on the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan heights.
“In response, the IDF attacked three Syrian guns on the Golan heights. Any incident in the future would force the IDF to strengthen the response,” reads a communiqué issued by the Israeli army.
According to the Israeli press, Syrian shells fell in the wilderness, without causing damage.
The Golan heights – a disputed territory in the middle East, now controlled by Israel. From 1944 to 1967 it was part of the Syrian province of Quneitra; captured by Israel in the six day war of 1967.
