Maria Sharapova took part in the transfer of humanitarian assistance to the victims of the recent hurricane “Maria” and forest fires in Puerto Rico. Russian tennis player arrived at the international airport “Luis Munoz Marin” of Puerto Rican capital of San Juan, accompanied by a native of those places athletes Monica Puig.

“Landed in San Juan. Several weeks were spent in trips around the world, and I was able to do it today. We will distribute supplies, which were delivered to Puerto Rico yesterday, bought through the efforts of Monica to raise funds. The little things are important, and her incredible efforts are admirable,” — said Sharapova on arrival in Puerto Rico.

Then Sharapova and Puig took part in the charity event the city of Lois and handed over part of humanitarian aid and basic necessities, including 1250 cookers, 3 thousand propane cylinders for stoves, thousand lights working on solar batteries. This Russian athlete said in his microblog on Twitter.
During the visit, Sharapova was photographed with a large group of Puerto Rican children. “This photo means everything to me,” said the athlete.
Earlier, the tennis player said that at the invitation Puig visited Puerto Rico a year ago and fell in love with the culture and people of this island. So now it is very painful to see the suffering of the residents of the devastated Puerto Rican land. To support the victims, Sharapova intends to end the year transfer to Puerto Rico all the money earned on the sale of confectionery products from its own brand and to help the charitable Fund Monica Puig.
“We know what wonderful people live here, and wanted to spend time with them. We are a professional tennis player but, in the end, we are also just people and feel the pain of these people. We wanted to share these moments with them”, — said Sharapova.
Recall that struck in September, the Puerto Rico hurricanes “Irma” and “Maria” has led to numerous deaths and caused enormous damage to the country’s infrastructure, completely destroying or greatly damaging most of the settlements.
