-The government of Scotland announced Friday that it supported the position of the authorities of Catalonia on the question of independence, according to “Bi-bi-si”.
The Minister for culture, tourism and foreign Affairs of Scotland Fiona Hislop said that the people of Catalonia should be able to determine their own future. At the same time, she did not claim the recognition of Catalonia as a separate state and called for dialogue to resolve the crisis.
“We understand and respect the position of the government of Catalonia. Spain has the right not to accept independence, but the people of Catalonia should be able to determine their own future,” said Hislop.
She noted that in the current situation, the EU carries “political and moral responsibility” for a peaceful and democratic resolution of the conflict.
Prime Minister Theresa may said that London does not recognize the vote of the Parliament of Catalonia about the independence. On Friday, deputies of the Parliament of Catalonia supported the region’s independence from Spain.
In less than an hour after the vote in the Catalan Parliament, the Spanish Senate supported the application in respect of the region of article 155 of the Spanish Constitution, which allows Madrid to limit the autonomy of Catalonia.
