In Moscow have chosen 10 of the most successful women in science

Ten young Russian women-scientists received on Monday scholarships for 2017 as the most talented and perspective specialists in the field of physics, chemistry and biology. The correspondent of “MK” has found out who and what was awarded at this time.

International scholarship “For women in science” are awarded annually. In 2017 the contest received 452 applications from 65 cities of Russia. As in previous years, fellows were chosen by an authoritative jury, chaired by Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexei Khokhlov. And 4 December in the Pushkin Museum named after A. S. Pushkin held the 11th award ceremony.

So, the winners of the competition in 2017 become six of them, two residents of Novosibirsk, and also on one of the Saratov and Tomsk:

Natalia Harutyunyan, Russia, Moscow, General physics Institute. A. M. Prokhorov.

Vorob’eva Nadezhda, Moscow, Institute of gene biology, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Greifer Ekaterina, Novosibirsk, Institute of inorganic chemistry A. V. Nikolaev the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Olga Gromova, Tomsk, national research Tomsk Polytechnic University.

Cibis Lydia, Novosibirsk, Institute of Catalysis im. G. K. Boreskov, SB RAS, Novosibirsk State University.

Kolmychek Irina, Moscow, Moscow state University. M. V. Lomonosov, Physical Department.

Alyona Makarova, Moscow, Institute of molecular genetics Russian Academy of Sciences.

Olga Moskalenko, Saratov, Saratov state University named after N. G. Chernyshevskogo.

Safronova Ekaterina, Moscow, Institute of General and inorganic chemistry im. N. With. Kournakova (IGIC RAS).

Turchaninova Maria, Moscow, Institute of Bioorganic chemistry. M. M. Shemyakin and Y. A. Ovchinnikov Russian Academy of Sciences.

The selected girls for his scientific work, touch the most profound basic research in the field of the human genome, semiconductors, nonlinear wave phenomena, etc.

For example, Muscovite Irina Kolmychek from the physics Department of Moscow state University. Lomonosov studying nanostructured metamaterials, which in the future it will be possible to hide three-dimensional objects. The theme of the so-called “invisibility cloak” for a long time in the air, making it both Russian and Western scientists, trying to create the perfect materials not found in nature and has the “negative refractive index in the visible region”. There are experiments demonstrating how metamaterials visually hide objects – this is useful for creating perfect clothing for the soldiers. Suitable metamaterials for larger military facilities, as they cannot be detected by means of radio razvedka. There are prospects of using metamaterials in technology antennas to achieve the bandwidth supports it and reduce the size of the antenna elements.

In her work Irina specializiruetsya on research in the field of optics and nonlinear optics of metamaterials of various design and composition.

Another scholar – Alena Makarova Institute of molecular genetics deals with research that are important for understanding the mechanisms of protection of cells from DNA damage and enhanced medicines.

And Maria Turchaninov from the Institute of Bioorganic chemistry. Shemyakin and Ovchinnikov RAS studies the immune system and believes that “immunology is an amazing science in which practice is ahead of theory”. People long ago figured out the basic rules for the functioning of the immune system learned to support it by vaccination, however, a comprehensive scientific justification for the principles of immune defense beginning to emerge only now, centuries after the advent of the first vaccines. It is on this justification and works Mary. Received results are published in leading Russian and foreign scientific journals.

Almost all of the scholar L’oréal-UNESCO in addition to the outstanding scientific achievements have a strong family, children, doing sports and travelling. For example, Turchaninov is a scholarship program of the President of the Russian Federation for young scientists and postgraduates, the winner of the youth prize of the European Academy, and almost all my spare of science time devoted to family and sports (she is a candidate master of sports in figure skating). The author of 24 scientific articles Alena Makarova brings her husband a daughter Zoe and a son, Michael, loves to travel and is interested in marine aquariums.
