“We call for the active participation of athletes from all over the world involved in winter sports, including Russia,” – said in a statement released by the Ministry of culture sports and tourism of the Republic of Korea.
The document States that South Korea “regrets” about the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) concerning the Russian participation in the Games.
The statement noted that South Korea “expects that the winter Olympics in Pyeongchang will be a good opportunity to strengthen the traditional friendly relations between Korea (if) and Russia,” and that it “is prepared to meet numerous Russian athletes.”
On the eve of the IOC adopted a decision prohibiting Russia to compete at the Olympics under the Russian flag, allowing you to participate under the IOC flag those Russian athletes who are not involved in doping scandals.
The decision about the participation of Russians in games will be taken on December 12 at the Olympic meeting.
