– The South Korean authorities welcomed on Monday the announcement of the DPRK’s readiness to send its athletes in South Korea’s Pyeongchang for the winter Olympics.
“We welcome the fact that Kim Jong Eun expressed readiness to send a delegation of athletes and invited talks”, – quotes the Agency “Yonhap” a statement from the office of the President of South Korea.
“The successful start of the Games will contribute to the stability not only on the Korean Peninsula, – stated in the document, but in General in East Asia and in other parts of the world.”
The organizing Committee also reacted positively to the willingness of Pyongyang to participate in the competition, calling this development a “Christmas gift”.
In turn, associated with the South Korean intelligence state Institute of national security strategy, suggested that in exchange for participation in the Olympic games, the DPRK may require, in particular, the cancellation of South Korean sanctions and the resumption of joint economic projects. “We cannot rule out that North Korea asked Seoul to lift economic sanctions and resume projects on economic cooperation and the delivery of humanitarian assistance”, – stated in the report of the Institute.
Earlier, the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-UN during a new year address to the nation said that he is ready to start negotiations on the issue of sending North Korean athletes at Pyeongchang. “I sincerely hope that the winter Olympics in Pyeongchang will be a success. We are ready to take measures, including to send our athletes,” he said.

Kim Jong-UN, added: “the Authorities North and South should meet and discuss this topic in the near future.”
XXIII Winter Olympic games will be held in Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February 2018. The Olympic flame arrived in South Korea on 1 November.
As previously reported, the Russian athletes will be able to perform at the winter Games in 2018 in Pyeongchang under a neutral flag. This decision because of a doping scandal in early December, was attended by the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Exactly who from Russians will be able to speak in South Korea, will solve the special Commission. Their form at the recommendation the IOC should be the inscription “Olympic athlete from Russia.”
