Scientists: alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer even in healthy

British scientists have discovered how alcohol destroys DNA in stem cells of the blood, mutates them, and irreversibly change their structure, which in turn increases the risk of developing cancerous tumors. Such a disappointing conclusion was made by researchers from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, reports Nature.

As noted, the researchers gave the experimental mice to try diluted ethyl alcohol and observed for the genes of rodents. Scientists monitored the impact on their genes to the toxic acetaldehyde, a substance produced in the body from processing alcohol.

“This study proves what harm alcohol can cause our cells that can lead to much more serious consequences than a hangover,” said the scientists.

And this happens even with healthy people, because the processing of alcohol in human organs is imperfect.

As it turned out, sports drinks with high degrees of DNA damage in stem cells of the blood, and this increases the risk of seven types of malignant neoplasms, including cancers of the esophagus, scientists warned fans of a stiff drink.
