– President of the International chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov recused himself from the election of the President of the Russian chess Federation (RCF).

“Thank you for your trust, I hereby withdraw my candidacy from the elections of the President of the Russian chess Federation”, – he said at a Congress of the Federation on Saturday.

Ilyumzhinov said that he intends to concentrate on the job of President of the International chess Federation (FIDE), “foreign travel, the promotion of chess, the Russian school, bringing the number of players up to 1 billion people”.

He claimed that he received “the blessing of the President of the Russian Federation to participate in elections of the FIDE President”.

He also linked the decision to withdraw from the elections of the President of the Russian chess Federation with the publication of “the Kremlin list” in the United States. “This week took place the report in the US, the citizens of our country being pushed into isolation. I felt it the hard way, long ago in the sanctions list. I will fight for their rights.
