CAS: IOC is mistakenly invited two Russian athletes at the Olympics

Court of arbitration for sport (CAS) has published the reasoning part of the non-admission of Russian athletes at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. Interestingly, it refers to the error of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which was approved, but has not invited two athletes to the Games: athletes Sergei Gryaznova and sportsman Dmitry Popov.

The international Olympic Committee (IOC) in December suspended the national team of Russia from the Olympics, allowing only some of the athletes to perform at the Games in 2018 under the neutral flag. After this, the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) met many Russians, but invitations they did not wait, and on the opening day of the Olympics the CAS dismisses the 47 appeals to this strange decision.

Now was published the reasoning part, in which you can find at least one unpleasant incident.

Checking the Russian athletes, the IOC has received an expanded list of the 500 athletes and approved the participation in the competition for 391 cases. This number included the skeleton Sergei Gryaznov and bobsledder Dmitry Popov. However, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) received notice only about 398 athletes in the list are not just Gryaznova and Popov, and the reasons for the failure of the IOC is unknown, reports TASS. Thus, both received an invitation in Pyeongchang.

CAS found this in the course of consideration of appeals of the Russians and came to the conclusion that they could participate in the Olympics. However, all claims on the part of Russia were rejected and 45 athletes, along with 2 trainers, the Games-2018 passed.
