– The demand for Russian transport spacecraft “Soyuz” and the space “truck” “Progress” in the coming years will be stable, but in the future the Russian space program is waiting for the complication of the situation with manned launches due to the increasing competition from private companies from the United States.
According to a report by rocket-space Corporation “Energy” for the fourth quarter of 2017, the demand for space manned and unmanned services in the global market gradually increases and after closing the Space Shuttle program, Russia became a monopolist on the market of manned space flight.

“The demand for products produced by JSC “RSC “Energia” manned transport ships such as “Soyuz” and cargo ships of “Progress” in the near future (at least for the period of the ISS) is expected to remain stable,” – said in the report.
The demand is determined by the need to fulfill international obligations of the Russian Federation delivery to the International space station (ISS) members of the international crews and cargo to supply the station, including fuel. In this case, the Corporation noted that, in accordance with the Federal space program of Russia for the years 2016-2025, the number of launches of the ships of “Progress” was reduced to three a year. In addition, since 2012, the us space Agency NASA are able to perform the delivery and return of cargo to the ISS on a cargo spacecraft Dragon. Also in 2013, NASA cargo can also be delivered to the ISS via a cargo spacecraft Cygnus.
“And, as a consequence, orders NASA to transport cargo via ships “Progress” has declined. In connection with ongoing plans of the American commercial companies to build manned spacecraft Russia’s monopoly on the market of manned space flight is projected to be short-lived, and competition will increase”, – the report says.
So, NASA plans to start operation of manned commercial ships production of Boeing Cockpit and Crew Dragon (Space X) in 2019. Demonstration flight tests of commercial vehicle SpaceX (Crew Dragon) is scheduled in August 2018, unmanned, and in December 2018 with a crew on Board. Demonstration flight tests of commercial vehicle Boeing CST-100 unmanned mode is planned for August 2018, in the manned mode – in November of the same year.
“In the domestic market, the Corporation in this activity has no competitors. Expected sustainable demand for the work of the Corporation for use and intended use of the ISS, including in the field of international research projects for Earth and space, the construction of new elements of the ISS (modules MLM, UM, NEM), as well as on promising developments in the field of manned cosmonautics, including the creation of advanced manned transportation systems and the development of outer space”, – noted in “Energy”.
The report says that prospects for further development of Russian manned cosmonautics in the part of the transport ships associated with the creation of a manned transport ship the new generation, as well as cargo vehicle with an increased load capacity.
“For the Corporation sector risks associated with the increase in the cost of production, and the ratio of the dynamics of the increase with global peers. Currently, the Russian and world markets the demand for space services using unmanned spacecraft has a tendency to increase,” – said in the report.
In “Energy” are expected to increase the competition between the world’s major manufacturers of space vehicles and the emergence on the market of production and launch automatic space vehicles of new world players in countries with high economic development rates – such as China, India and Japan.
