On the day of national elections in Ramtha staged quest for poets and kings

On the day of national elections of the President of Russia at the Youth theatre (RAMT) played the premiere with a very telling title — “the Last days”. Who have no clue what is the name of Mikhail Bulgakov’s play, wonder — whose last, for whom and why are they the last? There are no answers. Yet. But most importantly, Director and artistic Director of ramta Alexey Borodin, although they not announced, but put, for which he kowtow.

In the “Last days” Borodin on the same stage brought together three writers, in my life intersects because of their living in different eras — Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Bulgakov and Boris Akunin. However, “the bronze horseman” first breaks in the “Last days”, the work of Bulgakov, among other things, about Pushkin, and both germinate in the play Akunin “Kill the snake” in Peter I. Not literally, but in essence the idea of the Director’s vision. Contradictions between writers is not observed. On the contrary, it seems like the classics are friends and give each other hand: if you do not metasciences, in the sense of reflecting, of course, the similarity of different times, modes in the Russian reality. And this similarity is frightening.

On the shore of desolate waves

He stood, full of great thoughts,

And the distance looked. Before him well

River neclace. Poor canoe

It sought lonely.

Peter king, the founder of St. Petersburg, will appear only in the second act, but not a great reformer, Tsar Russian, and the young hysterical creature, still claiming the throne in the suppression of sister Sophia and her lover Golitsyn, husband state of mind and a hopeless utopian. Literary composition from Borodin’s more like a quest with sharp turns, disappearances and appearances, the mysterious and sometimes oppressive atmosphere. A game where it would be good to be in the subject, on the alert not to miss the key secret, not to lose sight of the characters, just a good illusion, appear, then disappear.

Pushkin and his wife Natalie, insidious rival and his patron, the Russian Emperor Nicholas I, the chief of gendarmes Benkendorf, the Valet poet Nikita. Suspicion, peaching, denunciation, and surveillance. Pushkin on the stage of no — for that Bulgakov at the time from critics and the bosses got. And theatrical quest about what happened before and after the duel on the Black river, about the artist and the power. And not only about Pushkin and Bulgakov: the play, originally called “Alexander Pushkin”, completed and authorized for production in 1935 (the writer signed a contract with Vakhtangov theatre), in two years, exactly on the eve of the Pushkin jubilee, was banned. Saw the footlights in 1943 at the Moscow art Theater, when the author for three years, was not alive. And that meant Alexei Borodin, one of the decent and worthy artists of our theatre, and our own experience is also the Director of Ramtha Sophia Apfelbaum, although not an artist, too — a victim of injustice, is still under house arrest with destiny, alas, uncertain.

Borodin designed the “Last days” is very tough, like a game of chess, where the players go for broke to risk. However, the rigidity that the Director translates the cruelty, and especially power to all indiscriminately — to the artists, the people, to their own country. And stiffness transmits decoration Stanislav Benediktov, ascertive air scene metal beams horizontally and vertically so that in some places they converge at a familiar Internet the symbol # (hashtag). Another symbol is sound, the image of the cold, which also controls the action. Cold and uncomfortable in a particular country at different times and era where artists under the supervision of, and future kings — epileptic petty tyrants with an unhealthy heredity.

Alexei Borodin: “of Course, “the Last days” — the play’s historical, yet timeless. Play Boris Akunin seems to be the story about the youth of Peter, but it has seen ghosts marred by slander of the “last days” of Pushkin and of the Third division with his denunciations. Completes the picture rhythmic clatter of hooves “the Copper horseman”. After all, they knock to this day. We need to hear them and clearly understand: all times are reflected in each other. It makes us stronger, though, and takes away hope for a happy ending.”
