– President of the International chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov does not intend to resign, despite the call by the presidential Council of FIDE.

“The decision of the presidential Board of FIDE is totally political and have no relation to chess,” said Ilyumzhinov, “Interfax” on Monday.
“The call of the presidential Council to me with the requirement to resign based on groundless sanctions imposed against me by the U.S. Treasury in 2015”, – said the head of FIDE.
“Any resignation I’m not going. Moreover, in September this year I will again run for FIDE President”, – said Ilyumzhinov.
On the eve of the FIDE presidential Council demanded that Ilyumzhinov to resign.
Ilyumzhinov has headed FIDE in 1995 and since then has been repeatedly re-elected to a new term. In November 2015, the head of the International chess Federation were in the sanctions list of the USA on Syria.
