“The decision of the presidential Board of FIDE is totally political and have no relation to chess,” said Ilyumzhinov.
He added that not only did not resign, but again to take part in elections of the head of FIDE, which will be held in September 2018.
Earlier, the presidential Council of FIDE, by an overwhelming majority demanded that Ilyumzhinov resigned. The occasion was the sanctions of the U.S. Treasury, which had imposed on the former head of Kalmykia Republic three years ago.
FIDE said that Ilyumzhinov as President undermines the organization’s credibility and deters sponsors.
