– The Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation does not exclude the possibility of anti-Russian actions at the Venice Biennale, which opens may 26.
“This is a very difficult international situation (…) Please pay special attention to the fact that the Biennale was not anti-Russian, anti-Russian statements, actions, works, anything. Special attention to what’s going to happen. We receive guidance from the Ministry of foreign Affairs about special vigilance and so on,” – said the first Deputy Minister of culture Vladimir Aristarkhov, referring to the Commissioner of the Russian pavilion at the Biennale, Semyon Mikhailovsky.
As noted the Deputy Minister, the situation is such that provocations “from our “partners” can be.”
Russian pavilion for the Venice Biennale was designed by Alexey Viktorovich Shchusev.
The USSR participated in the Venice Biennale until the early 30-ies, in the postwar years resumed participation only in 1956. In the pavilion in different years he presented his work Leon Bakst, Mikhail Vrubel, Alexander Deineka, Vera Mukhina, Erik Bulatov, Irina Nakhova, and others.
