– Two works by Kazimir Malevich will be put up for auction at Christie’s – one painting for the first time to appear at auction, and the second 10 years ago set the current record price for the works.

“Christie’s announces that in the framework of the spring-summer auction season auction will be exhibited two outstanding works of Kazimir Malevich. It is noted that “Suprematist composition” refers to a group of revolutionary works of abstract masters. It Suprematist works of Malevich was the first purely geometric abstractions in the history of painting.

This painting was among the exhibits of all lifetime retrospectives for the artist’s first major exhibition in Moscow in 1919 to Berlin in 1927. Later work was in the collection of the City Museum of Amsterdam, where until 2008, when by agreement with the Museum guide, she along with several other works were returned to the heirs of Malevich.

Last “Song” was put up for auction in November 2008, setting the current record price for works of K. Malevich (60 million dollars). Experts note that currently there is every reason to assume that the picture has all the chances to break this record.

Second painting, the monumental “Landscape”, refers to the so-called “red series”, a group of works by Kazimir Malevich, characterized by energetic brush strokes and expressive colors, referring viewers to the heritage of Fauvism and cubism, while anticipating the emergence of Suprematism.

The style of “Landscape” similar to the artistic technique of Paul cézanne, and the image of the buildings it refers to the cubist compositions of Braque and Picasso.

“Landscape” was first shown at “Moscow salon” in February–March 1911, and later appeared in exhibitions in St. Petersburg and Berlin.

The work was discovered after the war and acquired the Basel art Museum, in the collection, and which was more than 50 years before it was returned to the heirs of the artist. At the upcoming auction, the painting was first exhibited from a private collection.
