A fairy tale for children with an adult sense

From childhood, we all remember the fairy tale of Alexey Tolstoy about a naughty wooden boy, Pinocchio, Malvina, a girl with blue hair, and her faithful poodle of Artemon. The Director of the play “Golden key” Evgeniy Ibragimov has promised viewers a Provincial theater show unknown adventure — and partly kept his word. Partly because the unknown in the play, was not the adventure, and meaning. Correspondent “MK” visited the show and looked at how children’s tale turned into an acute social and political satire.

“The main reason why I put this show, I want to have a serious talk with children about love, says the Director. — I wish it came with families… in Order for each generation in the play there was a place opening or childhood memory…” But “Golden key” animates not the memories and nostalgia for the past — it gets exactly to the agenda. For example, the tale opened a nice musical number, a few minutes turns into topical satire. The audience is invited to sit in on the race for the Governor of the city, which looks like a show. The finalists of the project “Voice. Animals” Alice Fox (Alexandrina pitirimova) and Basilio’s cat (Anna Tsang) danced by “Lasike-crucians”, Malvina (Maria Dudkevich) and her boyfriend Piero (Sergei Medvedev) dancing in the improvised show “Ice and flame”, but the wise tortilla (Elena Sagina) mentally sings a song about whether or not to risk on the way up. The vote on the classics of the genre, behind the scenes — the audience just announce the result, and the Governor becomes predictable Karabas Barabas (Sergey Vershinin).

The musical number should be the inaugural speech. “Life has become better, life will be fun, promises the newly elected Governor. — We will develop our industry and we export our wood products to other cities. Our town will bloom with new colors!”

“All the best kids!” — he shouts the slogan, and on the stage make miniature wooden toy tanks and planes. Residents of the city are paralyzed with horror — it is clear the consequences of such a regime. Under the guise of good deeds and care about the citizens, the tyrant Karabas puts residents in a position of servitude, forcing them to dance to their tune. Those who rebel, and dares to go against him, punishing his men with flashing lights — so, for example, for the runaway Pinocchio and Malvina they sent in pursuit, “leased”, forcing them into the dark forest. At some point, a play about love and adventure turns into a story about the current regime. About how important is to unite and overthrow the tyrant, seized power in the city, turned into a puppet theatre.

Director Ibragimov creates a curious synthetic performance in which the puppets and the people seamlessly exist in a single stage space, replacing and interchangeable each other. It seems that this was a global idea and the fatal metaphor to show that everyone is a puppet in someone’s hands. Before the Provincial actors posed a challenge — they not only had to create an image of your character, but also to learn to work with puppets, to give them their own character, and by in a literal sense go by the wayside, become incorporeal puppeteers. But it was worth it — the small audience of puppet play acted, fascinating, and well-built light and scenery.

All this magic is the work of a famous artist and set designer Emil Kapelush, laureate of prize “Golden mask” . Specifically for the play was written and music composer Nikolai Akimov created the original party, and the lyrics for duets, arias and zongo wrote Sergey Rafts.

Modern midkvel tales Tolstoy — the so-called “Golden key” in the Provincial theater, using cinematic terminology. By the way, the impact of cinema is reflected in the play, when the “malicious” the tree of life of the city is going to cut down terrible Karabas (which itself is a puppet under the control of someone above) — it is impossible not to remember “Avatar” Cameron, where the events developed very similar. Opposition Pinocchio in the end turns thereby a log with the malicious tree, populated by parasites (“parasite on the body of society”), and raises the rebellion against the tyrant. However, it is unclear how these hidden and explicit meanings are obvious to children, which originally set the tale — and the age limit is 6+ and all seems counterintuitive. Although if you look at everything philosophically, that every fairy tale is a story about us, but any adult is just a grown child.
