Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that in response to US sanctions, the Turkish authorities will freeze the American assets of Ministers of justice and home Affairs in Turkey, if any in the country. This is reported by the newspaper Milliet and the Anadolu news Agency.

“The actions of the US, particularly in the case of pastor Bronson are not in the spirit of strategic partnership with Turkey,” Anadolu quoted Erdogan.

He also added that “those who believe that Turkey will back down before the threats and absurd decisions on sanctions, do not know this country and the people.”

Washington imposed sanctions against the Ministers of justice and internal Affairs of Turkey on 1 August. Accounts and property of Turkish Ministers in the United States under the terms of the sanctions should be arrested. In addition, the restrictive measures include the prohibition of us citizens and organizations to pursue any transactions related Ministers.

The reason for the introduction of restrictive measures against senior government officials of Turkey was the detention in Ankara of a number of U.S. citizens working in the U.S. Embassy in Turkey.

Among them is pastor Andrew Branson, he is under arrest from October 2016. Ankara has accused him of supporting the movement of Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, which Turkish authorities believe the terrorist, and espionage and attempting to overthrow the government.

“By order of the President [trump’s] Treasury imposes sanctions against the Ministers of justice and internal Affairs of Turkey. They both played a key role in the arrest and detention of pastor Brunson”, — said the press Secretary of the White house Sarah Sanders.

Turkey is a US ally in NATO. The US decision to impose sanctions against Turkish Ministers was preceded by negotiations between US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu. The next day after this meeting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the possible results of the Branson USA “not discussed”.

“We are not tied to US, they should not forget that in case of continuation of such attitude they will lose a strong and sincere ally in Turkey,” said Erdogan.
