To pay for goods and services to visitors to the coffee chain can use crypto currencies via a special platform, which was called Bakkt. The development has been before reported, the operator of the new York stock exchange Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). Development Bakkt jointly Starbucks, ICE, Microsoft, BCG, and a number of other companies.
Platform Bakkt will use the Microsoft Cloud, which will create an open and adjustable global ecosystem for digital assets.
The platform will allow users to store, sell, buy and spend digital assets. Originally Bakkt will be used for trading and converting cryptocurrency. Thus, consumers can use Bakkt automatically to exchange cryptocurrencies for us dollars for payment of goods and services of coffee shop chain Starbucks.
Vice President, affiliate relations and payments at Starbucks Maria Smith stated that Starbucks, being the “flagship retailer, will play a key role in the development of useful, reliable and regulated applications for consumers so that they can convert their digital assets into US dollars” for use in coffee chains.
When a new technology is available, Starbucks has not yet been announced.
According to Kelly, the fact that Starbucks is going to take crypto-currency is “the most important news of the year for bitcoin”. He believes that this step will give the popularity of bitcoin and will mean that users will be able to spend their digital as almost anywhere.
