“In 2008, of course, was the war between Russia and Georgia, which was attended by regular Russian armed forces. But the war against Georgia, began much earlier, <…> the occupation began much earlier, it began in 1992-1993,” — said Margvelashvili.

“We should not be afraid to call a spade a spade. What is doing Russia against a sovereign state is a war between Russia and Georgia is an aggression, an occupation and is violation of all international norms”, — said the head of state.

It says that four countries unconditionally and always support the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

“Regions of Georgia — Abkhazia and Tskhinvali occupied by Russia, and the so-called creeping occupation continues to this day. Russia issued quasicoherent with the occupied regions, which focused on the integration of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali with Russia. Artificially the process of recognition of Georgian regions “independent States” from countries influenced by Russia and this is happening under the dictation of Russia. We reject such moves and will never recognize the results of these actions”, — quotes Agency the text of the communiqué.

The official position of Georgia on the war in South Ossetia in August 2008 is that the fighting started on 8 August, insists Moscow, and a day early. It was August 7, 2008, I believe in Tbilisi, Russian forces through the Roki tunnel and entered the territory of Georgia, and all actions of the Georgian army in the future was an attempt to stop the aggression. So commemorative events in Georgia, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the war, began on 7 August. In particular, according to the report on the website of the President of Georgia, on this day over the residence of the head of state and over the state institutions of the country were at half-mast national flags.

According to Moscow, on the night of 8 August, the Georgian army began fighting in Tskhinvali and captured the city. The Russian army intervened in the conflict to protect its citizens living in South Ossetia. After the cessation of hostilities, Moscow recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
